Forecast Snow Stability: Initially, localised moderately bonded windslab will be found in the most wind sheltered locations only on mainly East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Gradually the cold, dry deposits will start to be redistributed in the very strong winds. New snowfall will also accumulate with localised, unstable windslab forming in wind sheltered locations on West through North to North-East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: After a clear and very cold night, precipitation will arrive as moderate snowfall from mid-morning through to the end of the period. Light winds overnight increasing to become gale force Southerlies during the day. Freezing level gradually rising from 200 metres overnight to reach 600 metres by the end of the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A mainly dry day with very occasional and light snow showers. Storm force North-North-Westerly winds overnight easing during the day to strong. Freezing level around 400 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The overnight winds have stripped loose snow from all but the most wind sheltered locations. Localised, moderately bonded accumulations are to be found on East through South to South-West aspects above 900 metres and to a lesser extent on some North-East aspects. Elsewhere the ground is scoured or holds very firm and icy old snow. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
