Avalanche Activity

Increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches in the course of the day. The avalanche prone locations are rare.

Avalanches can be released, in particular by large loads and reach medium size. This applies in particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. Especially transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack are unfavourable. The avalanche prone locations are rare. In addition as the day progresses mostly small wet loose snow avalanches are to be expected. Caution is to be exercised in particular on extremely steep sunny slopes, and at the base of rock walls. Backcountry tours should be concluded early.

Snowpack Structure

The gusty wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Hard wind slabs formed. These are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on west, north and east facing slopes above approximately 2200 m. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to significant moistening of the snowpack. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. In particular on steep sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes hardly any snow is lying.

Tendency

The high temperatures will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack.
