Tetons
Lawinengefahr
Kernpunkte
The general avalanche this morning is LOW at all elevations. Isolated pockets of slab up to 12 inches in depth lie upon melt/freeze crusts and wind slabs which could be triggered today on steep shaded aspects. As temperatures warm this afternoon the avalanche hazard will increase on sunlight aspects above 9,000 feet where wet loose avalanches lying upon a well developed sun crust could be triggered by back country travelers. Avalanches are unlikely in the shallow snowpack at mid and low elevations.
Avalanche Discussion
Clear skis and thermal inversions are forecast to continue and are expected to foster the further development of suncrusts and surface hoar. Fog and cold temperatures are expected in the valleys in the morning and will give way to warmer temperatures and abundant sunshine in the afternoon. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREA The general avalanche hazard for Wednesday is expected to be LOW. The hazard and potential for isolated human triggered wet slide activity will increase on steep sunlit aspects as the day progresses and temperatures rise.
