The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW this morning and will rise to MODERATE through day as snowfall and wind create soft slabs to a foot in depth on steep, lee slopes near ridgecrests. The new snow rests on smooth crusts and slides could be easily triggered.
Avalanche Discussion
( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Winter weather will continue Tuesday night into Wednesday with cooler temperatures and snowfall. Several inches of new snow are possible at upper elevations by Tuesday evening with highs only in the low teens. Ridge top winds will be southerly at 10 to 15 miles per hour overnight then veer to northwesterly at 20 mph during the day Wednesday. The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to be LOW in the morning as old snow will have well frozen melt-freeze crusts. The hazard may rise to MODERATE if sufficient new snow and wind create large enough drifts to be of concern on steep, lee slopes at upper elevations.
