Avalanche Summary

Generally safe avalanche conditions will exist for most of the morning. Once temperatures increase and the snow starts to melt, you can easily trigger wet avalanches on many steep slopes. Most of these avalanches will be small, but on sustained steep slopes or above terrain traps such as a creek or a gully, they can grow large enough to bury you. Start and end your day early to reduce your chances of triggering a wet avalanche, but if your feet, skis, or machine start to sink over a foot into wet snow, even if it is early, you should avoid traveling on steep slopes.

You might be able to trigger a slab avalanche that fails on a crust around a foot deep on high-elevation, north-facing slopes. If you feel a firm crust about a foot beneath dry snow, avoid likely trigger points such as convex rollovers, and very steep, unsupported slopes, or steep slopes with terrain traps such as a cliff or creek beneath you.
