Strong southwest winds with gust to 68 miles per hour have formed pockets of dense wind slab at the upper elevations. These slabs could be human triggered in very steep avalanche starting zones. Settled snow depths range from six to 18 inches at the upper elevations. The ground surface is generally bare below an elevation of 8,000 feet.
At the upper elevations strong southwest winds have formed pockets of dense wind slab up to 12 inches in depth. These slabs could be triggered by humans in steep avalanche starting zones where wind drifted snow lies upon hard old snow surfaces.
Another pulse of moisture is forecast to move across western Wyoming and southeast Idaho overnight and into the morning. This moisture will be accompanied by cooler temperatures and strong southwest to west winds. The freezing level is likely to descend to the valley level by morning. After a bit of a let up in the afternoon, another weaker pulse of moisture will move into the area on Monday evening.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW below an elevation of 9,000 feet and MODERATE at the upper elevations. At the upper elevations pockets new soft slabs six to 18 inches in depth could be human triggered in steep avalanche starting zones.
