Forecast Snow Stability: Localised, shallow snow patches will be well bonded. These will mostly be encountered above 900 metres on North-East to South-East aspects and on some South aspects on the highest mountains along the Northern boundary of the forecasting area. Here, some sleet or wet snow will fall, especially as the freezing level lowers during the afternoon. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Overnight rain will ease by early afternoon. The freezing level will initially be above the summits, lowering to 1000 metres by the end of the afternoon. Gale force West-South-Westerly winds will ease as they veer to fresh Northerlies by the end of the period. Observed Weather Influences: Light rain in the West of the area, dry further East. Freezing level above the summits. Plus 4 degrees Centigrade at 933 metres at midday. Winds increased to storm force with gusts of over 90 mph at 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Isolated, thawing snow patches are mostly to be found above 900 metres, especially on North-East to South-East aspects. The high Northern boundary mountains, where the largest areas are to be found, also hold patches on South facing slopes. Though softening, all snow is well bonded. The avalanche hazard is Low.
