You may encounter unstable snow in isolated terrain features and where snow has remained on the ground since October. Cracking and collapsing are clear indicators of instability. Avoid terrain where the wind has built stiffer slabs, and reduce your risk further by continuing to move one at a time in avalanche terrain.  

Relatively mild weather continues to bode well for the snowpack. Though weak snow exists at the ground where October snow remains, most of the faceted snow at the ground I've found remains moist and could trend in either direction- dependent on our next dry spell and how that continues to play out. Due to the variability in coverage and additional dry weather that occurred after said October snowfall, a variety of persistent weak layers are also spread across various aspects and elevations. These players have remained quiet since our last significant snowfall but should not be ruled out. Reduce your risk by avoiding areas of dense or wind-stiffened snow and probe for changes in snowpack depth. Any large or sudden increase in depth could signify that you are in previously wind-loaded terrain or on top of older snow from October. 

The current snowpack poses the greatest hazard in exposed terrain where the wind has loaded snow. Unfortunately, these are also terrain features we may seek out as they have the most snow coverage. It is still early season, and a fall in terrain with low coverage would be unforgiving.
