Kernpunkte

On Monday, avalanches will be possible at the highest elevations on North and East slopes.  At elevations near treeline the wind was also moving snow, but I expect any avalanches to be small and harder to find; present on only a few of those North and East slopes.  It is always paying attention to the snow that's on the ground, carrying avalanche rescue gear, and traveling thoughtfully on slopes steeper than 30 degrees.

Despite a seeming lack of softer snow, I could see a lot of snow blowing off the peaks today.  Near treeline I also observed light blowing snow from the Southwest, but I didn't see large wind slabs developing.  It's a rare day that I go into the central Oregon backcountry without considering wind deposited snow and Monday will be no different.  The best tool I've found is to evaluate the extent and potential reactivity of wind blown snow on smaller or less steep slopes.
