At the upper elevations up to 13 inches of new snow have fallen since early Sunday morning. The recent new snow and small pockets of wind slab lie upon hard old snow surfaces. At the upper elevations and in isolated terrain features at the mid elevations small avalanches could be human triggered or release naturally from cliff areas and the starting zones of active avalanche paths. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 8,500 feet.
At the upper elevations shallow loose snow sluffs could be triggered by humans or release naturally from cliff areas and very steep slopes.
Small pockets of wind slab up a foot in depth could be human triggered or release naturally in steep wind loaded avalanche starting zones and cliff areas.
A ridge of high pressure will develop over the region with dry conditions and a warming trend. Under clear skies, overnight lows will drop into the teens and daytime highs will rise into the 30s and 40s. Winds are forecast to be westerly and increase to 15 to 20 with gusts to 25 miles per hour.So far winds have been lights and have not caused the development of new wind slabs. Shallow loose snow sluffs occurred on some very steep slopes at the upper elevation today. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW tomorrow. The potential for humans to trigger shallow loose snow sluffs in steep avalanche paths at the upper elevations will increase as the day warms. If winds increase, as forecast, isolated pockets of new soft slab could form on leeward aspects. Monitor conditions and adjust plans as conditions change. Terrain above an elevation of 10,500 feet in the tallest peaks of the Teton Range is above of the range and scope of this general avalanche hazard forecast and may be the location of more severe avalanche hazards.
