Strong to extreme southwest winds will blow ample new snow around and create reactive wind slabs today. Expect to find this problem on the downwind side of ridges, on rollovers, and in gullies and couloir features. Wind slabs will be largest near the Crest, and in areas that received the most new snow: from Mammoth and north. These avalanches could be large enough to bury a person. Natural avalanches are a sure sign that you've already found the problem. Blowing snow, cornices, deep drifts, and cracking from your skis are all warning signs. Seek out terrain sheltered from the wind, and slope angles that are not steep enough to slide to avoid exposure to avalanches today.
