Kernpunkte

Outside marked and open pistes a considerable danger of dry avalanches will prevail. In particular on steep shady slopes and on wind-loaded slopes medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow. In some localities a little new snow. As a consequence of the precipitation avalanches are possible as the day progresses, but they will be mostly small.

Avalanche Activity

Outside marked and open pistes a considerable danger of dry avalanches will prevail. In particular on steep shady slopes and on wind-loaded slopes medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow. In some localities a little new snow. As a consequence of the precipitation avalanches are possible as the day progresses, but they will be mostly small.

As a consequence of new snow and a light to moderate wind from northerly directions, wind slabs will form adjacent to ridgelines in all aspects as well as in areas close to the tree line. Numerous weak layers exist in the snowpack especially on steep northeast, north and northwest facing slopes. Between approximately 1900 and 3300 m the likelihood of avalanches is quite high. Even single winter sport participants can release avalanches very easily, including large ones. Careful route selection and spacing between individuals are recommended.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow can be released easily or naturally in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. Avalanches can be released in near-surface layers very easily.
