Avalanche Activity

In these regions below approximately 2500 m hardly any snow is lying, especially on steep south facing slopes.

The sometimes strong wind has transported some snow. At elevated altitudes sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed. The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases in particular on north to east to southeast facing aspects, caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2500 m on very steep slopes. In some places avalanches can also be released in near-ground layers.

Snowpack Structure

Towards its surface, the snowpack is hard and its surface has a melt-freeze crust, especially below approximately 2300 m. Weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. Below approximately 2000 m only a little snow is lying.

Tendency

Gradual decrease in avalanche danger as the temperature drops.
