You can trigger an avalanche where westerly winds have drifted snow onto easterly aspects. Be careful on any slope where you find more than about six inches of new or wind-drifted snow. The terrain you will most likely have issues are below ridgelines and in cross-loaded gully features. Look for and avoid smooth, rounded pillows of snow. If you find an old firm slab beneath the new snow, you could trigger a deeper slide. You can find safer travel in areas sheltered from the wind.
