Avalanche Activity

The sometimes moderate wind will transport only a little snow.

Some fresh snow and the small wind slabs will be deposited on soft layers in particular on shady slopes. These can be released even by a single winter sport participant, in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example in particular in high Alpine regions. Individual gliding avalanches can also be released in the night or in the morning, in particular on extremely steep grassy slopes below approximately 2700 m. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided as far as possible. On very steep sunny slopes crampons are useful

Snowpack Structure

Little snow will fall on Saturday in some localities. As a consequence of falling temperatures a crust formed on the surface. These conditions facilitated a strengthening of the near-surface layers in particular on sunny slopes, in particular below approximately 2700 m. Shady slopes: The snowpack is dry and has a loosely bonded surface. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2400 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitude a little snow is lying.

Tendency

A little new snow: The avalanche prone locations are sometimes covered with new snow and are therefore difficult to recognise.
