Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will remain well bonded and stable throughout. Shaded aspects will be firm, whereas slopes exposed to direct sunlight will develop a softer surface layer. Snow patches and ribbons will remain in depressions and hollows below 950 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: High pressure will continue, dry conditions throughout. In general the freezing level will be above the summits, however the airmass over the mountains will remain cooler with summit temperatures dipping to -1.5 Celsius during the early morning. Winds will be light and variable in direction overnight before strengthening through the day to become moderate to fresh South-South-Westerlies. Observed Weather Influences: A dry sunny day with moderate Westerly winds. The 1000 metre freezing level rose to above the summits. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack has consolidated and is firm well bonded and stable throughout. Shaded aspects are particularly firm above 900 metres, slopes exposed to direct sunlight have a softer surface layer. Snow patches and ribbons remain in depressions and hollows below 950 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
