Rising temperatures and abundant sunshine will be increasing the avalanche hazard today. Deep persistent slabs are still a potential hazard on steep avalanche prone slopes. Wet loose slides and cornice failures are possible after snow surfaces become soft. Big cornice drops could trigger very large deep slab avalanches. Pockets of surface slab up to two feet in depth could also be triggered by skier or riders in upper elevation avalanche starting zones and cliff areas. Avalanche activity is unlikely below an elevation of 8,000 feet. Monitor conditions and avoid steep slopes and cornices during the warmest potion of the day.

    Backcountry travelers could trigger a deep slab avalanche with depths to five on steep avalanche prone slopes. These dangerous deep slab avalanches are most likely to be triggered by a snowmobile or a cornice failure. Consequences would be severe if a person was caught in one of these large, destructive avalanches.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Conditions will remain dry and skies will be mostly clear. Temperatures will fall into the teens tonight and rise into the 30s and 40s on Tuesday. Winds will continue to be light and variable.Warm temperatures and sunshine will increase the general hazard is all areas tomorrow. Wet slides are possible on steep slopes. In the Togwotee Pass and Greys River areas the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Deep persistent slab avalanches are still a potential problem. Large hard slabs up to five feet in depth could be triggered by snowmobilers who climb steep avalanche prone slopes. In the Teton area the general avalanche hazard is expected to LOW in the morning hours and increase to MODERATE after snow surfaces begin to soften.Large cornices exist in all areas and could become unstable. Cornice failures could trigger large deep slab avalanches. Isolated pockets of surface slab up to two feet deep also exist and could be human triggered in steep avalanche starting zones, steep chutes and cliff areas.
