The storm has delivered two strikes:

    1. High snowfall rates. The new snow has stacked up VERY fast. When we see high snowfall rates, usually the new snow is unstable. It just doesn't have enough time to settle and stabilize.
    2. Strong wind. Wind transports snow and deposits it very rapidly. This also causes unstable conditions.

Don't let the third strike be you triggering an avalanche. Simply avoid all steep slopes today to stay safe.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: Nice storm!! The mountains picked up 12 to 18" of snow overnight. The wind from the west has been fairly strong along the higher terrain. Temperatures are in the low teens.

Mountain Weather: We'll see continued periods of snow and wind today. If weather models are correct, storm totals will exceed my expectations. We could see up to another foot of snow today. The wind will be strong from the west along the higher terrain. Temperatures will remain in the low to mid teens. The storm will taper off Wednesday morning with lingering clouds and chances for light snow. Thursday looks sunny.
