Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will continue to thaw at all levels and be generally stable. During the afternoon the snowpack will begin to re-freeze. Isolated accumulations of shallow windslab will begin to develop where any older snow patches remain on North through East to South-East aspects, predominantly above 800 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Gale force South-Westerly winds will veer to become Westerly during the afternoon. The freezing will remain above the highest summits overnight and during the morning before lowering during the afternoon to around 600 metres. Rainfall at all levels from mid morning will progressively turn to snow as the freezing level lowers. Observed Weather Influences: An overcast day with the cloud base around 700 metres. Strong Westerly winds. Rain falling at all levels eased as the day progressed. The freezing level was above the highest summits. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is wet, thawing at all levels and is generally stable. The greatest snow cover is above 800 metres on North to East aspects and is patchy with bare ground elsewhere. The avalanche hazard is Low.
