Avalanche Activity

Fresh and older wind slabs in the high Alpine regions.

As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes strong wind, wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Wind slabs can be released, in particular by large loads. There is a danger of falling on the icy crust. As a consequence of the solar radiation, the likelihood of dry and wet avalanches being released will increase a little in particular on sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls wind slabs formed. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften later than the day before. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to moistening of the snowpack at low and intermediate altitudes.
