The most dangerous slopes are steep, wind-drifted slopes facing northeast through east to southeast at upper elevations just below ridgelines and in the alpine. Although less likely, triggering an avalanche in recent wind-drifted snow could step down to become much larger avalanche on deeply buried weak layers near the ground. The easiest way to reduce your chances of triggering and avalanche is to stick to wind-sheltered slopes at lower elevations, mostly below treeline.
