Most slopes are safe from avalanches. The few slopes where you might be able to trigger a small avalanche are dense wind drifts just below ridgelines. Even if you trigger an avalanche here, it will be very small and relatively harmless. Be careful if you find one of these wind drifts above a cliff or other terrain trap, where even a small avalanche could knock you over and drag you into dangerous terrain underneath you.
