At the mid and high elevations the possibility to trigger surface slabs and potentially the underlying hard slabs continues. The surface slabs, formed by our most recent snow and wind lie on wind loaded aspects with depths to eighteen inches. The underlying hard slabs lie upon a weak layer of snow formed in January with depths up to an additional three feet. These slabs will be most sensitive to larger loads such as snowmobiles in steep avalanche terrain, particularly near cliff areas. The sensitivity of these slabs and the potential for wet slides will increase today as sunlight and warming occur. At low elevations, avalanches are unlikely in the morning hours however, wet slides may occur as temperatures increase. Yesterday the third skier on a slope triggered an avalanche on a West facing slope in Game Creek and on Friday a snowmobile triggered a slide in Teton Canyon.
