Avalanche Activity

The backcountry touring conditions in the morning are favourable. The fresh wind slabs will form in particular in the regions of the north exposed to the foehn wind and generally in the high Alpine regions.

The danger of moist and wet avalanches in the early morning will be low (level 1). Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls. As a consequence of warming during the day there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches, in particular at the base of rock walls. As a consequence of solar radiation mostly small moist and wet avalanches are possible below approximately 2300 m. This applies in particular on very steep sunny slopes. In the regions of the north exposed to the foehn wind above approximately 2700 m in some localities danger level 2 (moderate) will be reached. The fresh wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at high altitudes. They can at their margins be released by people.

Snowpack Structure

Snow depths vary greatly at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions, depending on the infuence of the wind. At low and intermediate altitudes only a little snow is lying. The weather conditions gave rise to favourable bonding of the snowpack over a wide area. The early morning will see quite favourable conditions mostly. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
