Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The sometimes strong wind has transported some snow. The large wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant on steep shady slopes above approximately 2600 m. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. The avalanches can in isolated cases reach large size. On slopes small and medium-sized wet avalanches are possible as the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 100 to 150 cm of snow, and up to 180 cm in some localities, has fallen since Saturday. The moderate wind has transported the new snow significantly.
