Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The snowpack will continue thawing and slowly consolidating. Some wet snow instabilities will remain on mainly on steep North to East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Cornices above these aspects will remain unstable. On other aspects the snowpack will be generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: After some overnight rain a generally dry day is expected. The freezing level will be just above the summits. Observed Weather Influences: After some overnight rain it was a relatively dry day. It was also mild with the freezing level well above the tops. Winds were from the South-West. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is thawing in the milder conditions. After a period of overnight instability the snowpack was slowly consolidating during the day. Instabilities remain on steep North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Cornices above these aspects are prone to collapse. A number of small to medium size avalanches, probably corniced triggered last night, were observed on the aspects indicated previously. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
