LO for 31/12. Windslab developing in evening on W-N aspects above 1000m then consolidating overnight. Low hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised areas of windslab will develop through the evening mainly on West to North aspects above 1000 metres, mostly lying on bare ground. These will then consolidate in the warmer overnight conditions. Further windslab accumulations during the day are not expected to be significant. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow in the evening above around 800 metres with strong South-Easterly winds. Overnight rain at all levels with winds veering to the South-West and increasing to gale force. Showers during the day will fall as snow on the higher summits. The freezing level will rise above the summits overnight before dropping to around 1000 metres by the end of the period. Observed Weather Influences: After initial heavy rain and gale force South-Westerly winds it was a dry day with moderate Westerly winds. The freezing level dropped below summit level around midday. ObservedSnowStability: The limited snowpack continues to thaw and stability is good. Greatest accumulations are on high Easterly aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
