Avalanche Activity

Weak layers deep in the old snowpack necessitate caution. In addition the wind slabs should be taken into account.

Avalanches can be triggered in deep layers and reach medium size. Wind slabs can especially at their margins occasionally be released. Caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines, as well as in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation moist loose snow avalanches are to be expected as the day progresses, but they will be mostly small.

Snowpack Structure

The fresh wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on west, north and east facing slopes. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes. In the last few days above approximately 1800 m several mostly small avalanches occurred naturally.

Tendency

Increase in danger of moist and wet avalanches as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation.
