Kernpunkte

Cold temperatures and sustained winds kept the April sun in check yesterday.  Pockets of isolated wind-deposited snow in steeper leeward terrain still holds the possibility of avalanching. Remain cautious of convexities and start-zone slab formation above funneled gullies and consequential terrain while traveling in the backcountry today.

Sustained SW winds between 25-75 mph over the past 24 hours over ridge tops keeping wind transport deposition a concern on leeward slopes and cross loaded terrain Near Tree Line and Above.  Temperatures will remain cold today, as winds shift to the North West.  Keep terrain choice a priority, avoiding loaded possibly reactive wind slabs, which could be enough to sweep you off your feet and be buried.

Avalanche Discussion

  • Temperatures should remain cold today on all aspects. Expect to see signs of solar instabilities on due South aspects after mid morning to late afternoon. A hard freeze in single digits over night, and daytime temps just above freezing should keep Loose Wet instabilities minor. With that being said, Loose Dry slough on North aspects is still possible, so take caution in steeper consequential terrain as it is possible to be swept off your feet.
