At the upper elevations west winds have formed pockets of soft slabs up to 18 inches deep. These surface slabs could be triggered by humans in steep wind loaded avalanche starting zones and have some potential to step down and pull out old hard slabs up to two feet deep in isolated areas. The snowpack is mostly stable at the mid and lower elevations.

On Saturday skies will be cloudy with light to moderate snowfall likely during the day. Three to six inches of new snow accumulation are possible at the higher elevations. Temperatures at 9,000 feet will be in the upper teens to low 20s. Winds will be west-southwest at 20 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the higher elevations (9,000 to 10,500). Humans who venture into steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones could trigger pockets of soft surface slab up to 18 inches deep and in isolated areas, there is some potential especially with larger triggers such as snowmachines, to trigger denser slabs up to three feet deep. A mostly stable snowpack exists at the lower elevations.
