Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Skiers and riders venturing onto steep slopes could trigger pockets of dense surface slab to a foot in depth and/or full depth, hard slab avalanches. If mostly clear skies prevail throughout the day, the sensitivity of these hazards to human triggers will increase, and wet loose and wet slab avalanches will become possible on steep, sunlit slopes at all elevations.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Cloud cover is expected to increase during the day on Sunday as a Pacific low pressure system tracks to the south of the region. Overnight lows in the mountains will be near 20 before rising into the mid 30s during the day. Ridgetop winds will be out of the southeast at 10 to 20 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be: LOW during the morning in the Teton area where backcountry users have the potential to trigger isolated pockets of surface slabs to twelve inch depths in steep, shaded terrain. MODERATE in the Togwotee Pass area where the possibility persists for skiers and riders to trigger full depth hard slabs in very steep terrain. Larger triggers, such as snowmachines, may be necessary to initiate such an event. MODERATE in the Southwest Trails/Greys River area where backcountry travelers have the potential to trigger full depth hard slabs in steep terrain as well as surface slabs to twelve inches in depth on very steep shaded slopes. Any extended periods of sunshine will weaken the snowpack and wet slides could become possible on sunlit aspects in all three areas.
