Avalanche hazards will be limited to small slides at the higher elevations. At the upper elevations small pockets of wind slab less than a foot in depth could be triggered by skiers or riders on isolated terrain features. Today's sunshine and warming temperatures will increase the wet snow avalanche hazard during the warmest portion of the day. Shallow wet slides are possible on very steep sunlit slopes. Small slides can be dangerous in cliff areas, very steep couloirs, on hanging snowfields and in other types of extreme terrain.

We will have another clear night with lows in the upper teens and lows 20’s. On Thursday clouds and west-southwest winds will increase in the afternoon as the impacts of a storm system that will be tracking from southwest Montana towards northeast Wyoming extend into the region. Daytime highs in the mountains will rise into the 30’s and 40’s. The wet snow avalanche hazard will increase during the day. Shallow wet slides may be possible on very steep slopes during the warmest portion of the day. At the highest elevations it may still be possible to find an isolated pocket of wind slab up to a foot deep. Small slides can be dangerous in cliff areas, steep chutes, and other extreme terrain features. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be low. Monitor conditions for increasing wet snow hazards and carefully assess the snowpack and terrain with respect to the potential consequences of being caught and carried in a small avalanche.
