Mount Shasta

Avalanche danger will continue to be low until the area receives snowfall. Stay heads up for icefall and icy conditions on the upper mountain. South facing slopes will provide softer snow conditions during the late morning and afternoon.

Since October 1, 2021, Mount Shasta has received around 152 inches of snow. Most of this came in December, though both October and November got off to a good start with total snowfall at 61 inches and total snow depth peaking at 26 inches. Cold temperatures in December brought snow to elevations below 3,000 ft. A maximum snow depth of 82 inches was recorded on January 4th. The last snowfall in the area occurred on January 8th. Since then, continuous melt-freeze conditions and periodic wind events have created a well consolidated, uniform snowpack. The current depth of snow at the Old Ski Bowl is 62 inches. Total precipitation for the season is 80% of normal, and 17% of normal for 2022.
