The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack will be quite well bonded. The large quantity of fresh snow and the extensive wind slabs are bonding quite well with the old snowpack. The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example and on very steep shady slopes.
