The somewhat older wind slabs will be covered with new snow in some cases and therefore difficult to recognise. They can be released in isolated cases above the tree line. In particular shady slopes where hard layers are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack are precarious. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes. Low and intermediate altitudes as well as wind-protected sunny slopes: The snowpack is stable.

In particular above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The somewhat older wind slabs are covered with new snow and therefore barely recognisable. Especially places where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable. Especially shady slopes where hard layers are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack are precarious. The more recent wind slabs of recent weeks have bonded well with the old snowpack especially on sunny slopes. Low and intermediate altitudes as well as wind-protected sunny slopes: The snowpack is stable and its surface has a crust.
