Otherwise, a cold change is coming and with it, hopefully some new snow!

    Loose Wet avalanches will be unlikely across the N 1/4 above 1200m. Avoid steep rocky terrain where possible and be wary of overhead terrain if travelling through low-elevation bands.

  • We have a good understanding of the snowpack structure and confidence in the weather forecast.

Recent Avalanche Activity

There has been no avalanche activity reported in the past 48 hours.

Current Snowpack Conditions

The snowpack has seen significant wind above 1800m. Elsewhere, previously moist grains and a rain crust make for an interesting surface combination. This surface has been seeing some afternoon softening below 1700m, even on the Southerly 1/2 with recent warm temperatures. Underneath the surface there is no siginficant layering of note with the only storm of this season snow well consolidated through to ground.

Mountain Weather

Wednesday: Partly cloudy, Westerly winds persist, FAFL 1900m.

Thursday: Increasing cloud throughout the day with light precipitation forecast by day's end. Winds swing to the NW 1/4 and increase late in the day. FAFL 1900m.

Sliding Danger

Surfaces are hard in places and sliding hazard certainly exists. Be wary of ridge line travel and assess conditions in terrain with good runouts. An axe and crampons are highly recommended.
