It is unlikely a person will trigger a large avalanche today. While conditions are generally stable, it is still important to practice safe travel protocols. This includes traveling one at a time in steep terrain, watching partners from safe spots outside of avalanche runout zones, and planning an exit route in case a slope avalanches unexpectedly.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of a fatal avalanche accident that occurred on March 27. One skier was caught in an avalanche near Lake George and did not survive. Conditions are generally stable in the Summit Lake area. The weak layers we have been tracking in this zone have entered a period of dormancy and are unlikely to produce avalanches until we see a significant warming event or the next major storm. While it is unlikely a person will trigger an avalanche, we can never rule it out entirely. Stability is good, but it is still important to practice safe travel habits. This includes traveling one at a time in steep terrain, watching partners from safe places outside of avalanche runout zones, and having a plan if you trigger an unexpected avalanche.

Loose Snow Avalanches remain likely in steep terrain. These will be easy for a person to trigger and can be a concern in consequential terrain. With partly cloudy skies expected today, it is unlikely we will see significant natural activity.
