Avalanche Summary

New and drifted snow increase the chances of avalanches above treeline. The most dangerous areas will be very steep leeward slopes and rocky cross-loaded couloirs, where a small slab could wipe you off your feet and take you for a nasty ride. Look for and avoid obvious drifts, especially if traveling in extreme terrain. Cracking in the snow surface is an indication that you have found one of these drifts and highlights the need for you to assess the steep slopes you plan to travel.

As the new snow warms, we can expect a small shed cycle and loose avalanche to be triggered in the new snow on steep drifted slopes.

Researchers Ian McCammon and Sara Boilen are developing new tools for managing human factors for backcountry skiers and boarders. This survey asks about personal experiences with human factors and will take 7 - 8 minutes to fill out. Link is HERE. Thank you for your help!
