Avalanche Activity

A critical avalanche situation will prevail.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from southerly directions, further wind slabs will form in the course of the day adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released easily or naturally in all aspects above the tree line. The prevalence of avalanche prone locations and likelihood of triggering will increase with altitude. As a consequence of the precipitation more frequent moist loose snow avalanches are to be expected, even large ones. On steep grassy slopes more medium-sized gliding avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 15 to 60 cm of snow will fall until Monday above approximately 2000 m. Until Monday the wind will be strong to storm force. In places that are protected from the wind wind slabs formed. The fresh wind slabs are lying on soft layers. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack.

Tendency

As a consequence of warming during the day avalanches are to be expected as the day progresses, even quite large ones.
