Avalanche Activity

In gullies and bowls, isolated avalanches are possible.

In gullies and bowls above approximately 2600m, isolated avalanches can be triggered particularly by large additional loading. The releases will mostly be small-sized and occur especially in shady, wind-protected zones along the Salzburg border. Apart from the risk of being buried in snow masses, the danger of being swept along and taking a fall should be taken into consideration.

Snowpack Structure

Locally, 5-10 cm of fresh snow is expected. The newest snowdrift accumulations will be deposited mostly on shady slopes above about 2600m atop a weak old snowpack surface. The upper part of the snowpack is soft; the mid-level layeers are faceted; the lower layers are hardened. There is little snow on the ground.

Weather Forecast

On Tuesday, cloudy skies will dominate, a northwestern cold front will bring light snowfall during the morning hours. The snowfall level will descend from 1700m down to below 1000m. During the course of the day the front will weaken and move on towards the southeast. Light to moderate northerly winds will be blowing. Temperatures will recede during the daytime: at 3000m from -5 down to -10; at 2000m from +1 down to -4; at 1000m from +4 down to +1 degree.

Tendency

Little change in avalanche danger levels is expected.
