Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snow cover will remain much diminished, re-freezing at summit levels after a brief thaw overnight. During the day, there will be a dusting of fresh snow , generally lying above 700 metres. New snow is likely to accumulate in high wind sheltered locations, North-East to East aspects, where amounts are not expected to be significant. Wind exposed terrain will be scoured. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Snowpack Structure
Forecast Weather Influences: There will be a period of rain at all levels overnight as the freezing level briefly rises above the summits, Snow showers throughout the day, snow lying above 700 metres, with the freezing level around 750 to 800 metres. The South-West to West wind will strengthen overnight to peak at severe gale force around midday. Observed Weather Influences: A mild day, rain at all levels, turning to showers by mid morning. Strong Westerly wind and freezing level generally above the highest summits. ObservedSnowStability: A much diminished snow cover with a vague snowline around 700 metres. Any remaining snow is thawing, wet and generally consolidated. Most remnant areas of snow are on high East to South-East aspects. The avalanche hazard is Low.
