    An increasing avalanche hazard as we see this next storm roll into the region on Tuesday. So what are we expecting? Snow to around 700m and strong south-westerly winds. This provides the recipe for wind slab to build on leeward aspects to the wind and its local effects from terrain. The next 48 hours is not going to be a good time to venture onto the mountain with this storm. With that, caution will be needed immediately after the storm, as it will need time to settle. Remember it's the middle of winter, and things can change quickly; a trip on the mountain needs to be carefully thought about with caution and care given to the route and skill set required. The advisory has been moved to Considerable due to the incoming storm and expected snow.

Recent Avalanche Activity

No human-triggered or naturally triggered avalanches have been reported or observed over the past 24 hours.

Current Snowpack Conditions

The previous storm snowpack has consolidated well over the last 48 hours, with warmer temperatures mainly affecting the lower mountain snow below 1400m. Surface conditions will vary with exposed Southerly aspects being firm underfoot above 1400m. Isolated areas of wind slab may still exist on Easterly aspects above 1600m on sheltered slopes; potential for instabilities to still exist in these areas.
