Kernpunkte

Wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence. As a consequence of the new snow a large number of medium-sized to large natural avalanches are possible above approximately 1500 m.

Lawinenprobleme

  • Gliding snow

    • Above 1,400 m
  • New snow

    • Above 1,200 m
  • Wet snow

    • Below 1,100 m

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs represent the main danger. New snow requires caution. Field observations confirm the complex avalanche situation on all slopes.

Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence. As a consequence of the new snow a large number of medium-sized to large natural avalanches are possible above approximately 1500 m.

Over a wide area 50 cm of snow, and up to 70 cm in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2000 m. As a consequence of new snow and a strong northeasterly wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed during the night in all aspects. The new snow and wind slabs can be released easily, even by a single winter sport participant, above approximately 1400 m. In particular above approximately 1400 m many medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large dry loose snow avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of the new snow. Temporary safety measures may be necessary in some localities.
