Moderate avalanche danger - fresh snowdrifts at high altitudes
Avalanche danger above 2000m is moderate, at lower altitudes danger is low. Main danger stems from freshly generated snowdrifts at high altitudes. Particularly in steep east to south-facing entries, one sole person can trigger a slab avalanche.
Fresh snow and northerly winds are transporting the snow to behind abrupt drops in the terrain. Bonding is often poor, also there are weak layers inside the fresh fallen snow. The fundament is thoroughly wet up to at least 2000m, the snowpack in all aspected can begin to slide over smooth ground.
On Monday temperatures will drop noticeably amid strong-velocity northerly winds. Along the northern flank of the Alps, dense clouds and reduced visibility. Only minor snowfall. South of the Main Alpine Ridge, scattered clouds with intermittent sunshine. At 2000 m: -9 degrees. On Tuesday, the northerly air current will persist, temperatures will drop further. No major snowfall is expected.
The moderate snowdrift problem will persist, avalanche danger levels will not change.
