Forecast Snow Stability: Areas of unstable windslab will develop in steeper, wind sheltered locations above 900 metres on North through East to South-East aspects. Poorest stability will be found around corrie rims and in gully tops where new accumulations develop over existing snow-ice. Cornices will also start to develop in these locations. Wind exposed older snow will become very hard and firm with little depth achieved elsewhere. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Becoming cooler with the freezing level dropping to around 600 metres. Snow showers starting overnight will continue throughout the day. Gale to Storm force winds mostly from the South-West but veering Westerly by afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A very windy but generally dry day. Freezing levels were slowly rising, at midday a temperature of +3 degrees was recorded at 930 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snow cover is thawing but remains generally well bonded. Greatest amounts of snow are mainly on West through North to East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
