Kernpunkte

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. West winds have drifted snow into avalanche starting zones along the lee sides of the higher ridge lines. Skiers or riders who venture into avalanche starting zones with fresh deposits of wind-blown could trigger soft surface slabs up to 18 inches deep. Evaluate the snowpack carefully and avoid terrain where these slabs rest on sun crusts, rime crusts or hard wind-packed snow surfaces.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Moisture embedded in the northwest flow will bring clouds and periods of light snowfall. Snowfall accumulations of a couple inches are likely at the higher elevations by Thursday morning. Temperatures will moderate at elevation but will remain cold in the valleys. Wednesday’s highs will rise into the teens in the mountains and only into the single digits above zero in the valleys. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Pockets of slab up to 18 inches in depth persist and could be triggered by skiers or riders who venture into steep avalanche terrain.
