Recent snow and strong West to Southwest winds have formed dense slabs in steep avalanche terrain. At the high elevations these slabs could be triggered by skiers or riders to depths of three feet and may release in small pockets or involve wider slabs in exposed bowls or wind loaded terrain terrain features. At mid elevations pockets of slab to two foot depths could be triggered in very steep terrain and avalanches at low elevations are unlikely today except for in isolated pockets.

Periods of light snow are expected to continue through Friday. Highs are to be in the teens and winds are to be Southwesterly at ten to twenty miles per hour.The avalanche hazard is expected to be Considerable in the Tetons at the high elevations. Skiers or riders have the potential to trigger soft or hard slabs to depths of three feet in steep wind loaded terrain. These slabs have the potential to involve large volumes of snow as the slabs may be larger than those seen throughout this season. At the mid elevations, slabs to two foot depths may be triggered and avalanches at low elevations will be unlikely.In the Southwest Trails/Greys River area and in the Togwotee Pass area the hazard is expected to be Moderate. Human triggered slabs to three foot depths are possible in steep avalanche terrain near cliffs, ridge summits and peaks. Terrain ideal for highmarking may be particularly susceptible to failure under these current conditions.
