Kernpunkte

The potential remains for backcountry riders and skiers to trigger slabs to three feet that lie upon a persistent layer of weak faceted snow. Increasing temperatures and sunlight will increase the sensitivity of these slabs as well as provide for the possibility of small wet loose activity in the recently fallen snow.

The chance continues to trigger dangerous slab avalanches on steep slopes. These slabs are likely to be hard and could have depths to three feet at higher elevations. Suspect terrain includes very steep avalanche starting zones and pockets in rocky or cliff areas.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Snow shower activity is to taper off overnight and partial clearing is expected for Saturday. Mountain temperatures are expected to reach the upper twenties to low thirties and southwest winds are to be light. The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain Moderate. In the Tetons the chance continues to trigger pockets of wind slabs to eighteen inch depths in steep avalanche starting zones and cliff areas. In the Southwest Trails/Greys River area and in the Togwotee Pass area persistent slabs to three feet could be triggered in steep terrain where they are underlain by weak faceted snow.
