Kernpunkte

Cooling temperatures will bring an end to most of the wet avalanche problems that we saw over the weekend.  While avalanches will be unlikely, they are not impossible; it is still wise to carry avalanche rescue equipment and practice thoughtful travel techniques.

Avalanche Discussion

I had mixed feelings during the last weekend of warm sunny weather.  Saturday in particular felt like spring.  We saw some significant avalanche activity related to the melting snow.  The weather forecast for the upcoming week is much less settled.  Cooling temperatures on Monday and Tuesday should bring an end to instabilities associated with melting.  By midweek, more precipitation is predicted and right now the snow level looks to be hovering right around 6,000 ft. during that period (my fingers are crossed that it stays that way!)
