Recent avalanches, actively blowing snow, and cracks that shoot through the snow are all signs of instability. To reduce your risk, avoid steep terrain beneath corniced ridgelines, the base of cliffs, and wind-exposed alpine bowls. If you're in leeward, wind-loaded terrain, stick to low-angle areas, under 35 degrees. Wind-scoured slopes or sheltered terrain provide safer travel options. The Salmon La Sac could receive another 10" by Saturday afternoon. Be alert for triggering avalanches in wind-sheltered terrain where you find more than 6" of recent snow over a crust. Any avalanche could be larger and more dangerous in the western portion of the zone, near the Cascade Crest.
